Using Crystals

Using crystals – why do people use crystals for healing and energy work?

Using crystalsAs Dr Norm Shealy, MD, PhD, says in his latest publication Medical Intuition, Awakening to Wholeness,

‘Crystalline structures are piezoelectric. Piezoelectric means that when you put physical pressure on a substance, it responds with an electrical current. Quartz crystal is one of the premier piezoelectric crystals but our skeletons, muscles, tendons, and even our intestines are highly piezoelectric.’

Using crystals in a double-blind study of people with depression

In a double-blind study Dr Shealy was able to prove that 70% of people who departed from his depression treatment program with pre-programmed ‘positively charged’ quartz crystals were still out of depression at the end of three months, as opposed to 28%  of those who had a ‘positively charged’ glass crystal as a control.

OK so crystals are piezoelectric – why would using crystals be beneficial to a person?

Because of quartz and other crystals’ unique structural properties, many people believe that when a current or energy is run through a crystal, it resonates at a certain frequency helpful to the body or to a particular emotional or physical condition.

Also it’s believed that crystals can retain energies or ‘programs’ to help a person with their healing.

So for example, rose quartz is often reputed to help with the heart chakra or heart center of the body since it’s atomic structure and resonating quality is close to that of the heart area of the body, whereas clear quartz resonates more closely with the frequencies of the higher brain, or crown chakra.

Some suggestions for using crystals with energy work and spiritual practice

I use crystals to hold energy in a room, help pick myself up, and help others who need an energy shift.  I also use different crystals for the individual chakras, or energy centers and practice chakra balancing with crystals (see photo above).

It can be helpful to hold a crystal when meditating or seeking inspiration for a project, or for problem solving.

Both girls love to have crystals by their bed as part of their night-time ritual for a peaceful night’s sleep.

I gave my mum a crystal a few years ago (amecitrine, said to help with headaches).   She slept with the crystal by her bed, kept it with her when she was sick and said that it did help her.

You may already be using crystals in your kitchen!

I believe this is why there is a current craze for granite countertops in kitchens! They are beautiful of course, but emit a measurable piezoelectric field which relaxes and restores us.

If you have ever had the good fortune to travel to Yosemite National Park, the whole place is on a substructure of granite, a beautiful and peaceful sensation.  I recently travelled to Stone Mountain, near Atlanta, GA where you can take a skyride up the ‘world’s largest piece of exposed granite’.

Many visitors are attracted to the location, because of the quiet peace and beauty there…maybe it’s the piezoelectrics too!

How to pick a crystal of your own

I really like Gillian Louthan-Macbeth’s site.  I’ve bought crystals from her for quite a few years, including this one.  However crystals don’t have to be big or carved for you to gain a benefit from them.  Some of my favorites are simple quartz crystals in their naturally occurring form.

To starting using crystals, you can find a crystal store in your area when you start looking and see what you’re drawn to.

Once you start, be prepared to end up with a collection, crystals are so beautiful and have so many uses sometimes it’s hard to stop!
